Hydropower projects are causing extensive social and environmental impacts on Mekong River communities, and the financial institutions in the Mekong subregion have to do more. Their policies must be relevant for hydropower financing that upholds the rights of communities and the environment.
About the project
An executive visual summary that streamlines informative pieces to be shared with other organisations and stakeholders based on their report findings, as well as accessible infographics to be shared publicly on social media for awareness. These data visualisations were designed to inform and drive change.
The challenge
The challenge was to distil a full report with quantitative findings into a condensed 2 to 3 pages for stakeholder organisations, financial institutions, governments and the general public. In addition, data on technical topics (like energy consumption, hydropower capacity, and financing policies) had to be presented in more accessible and relatable terms for a lay audience.
Our creative solution
We worked closely with FFA to understand their focal points, and expanded on ways to creatively visualise quantity data into a more relatable and engaging visual. Leveraging visual metaphors, we wanted to ensure the data was not only clear, but visually accessible and relatable. In one of the main posters, we also made use of Greater Mekong population data to give relatable context.
